Let’s face it, winter’s are long in Vermont’s northeast kingdom. We tend to get more snowfall and lower temperatures than the rest of the state, so let’s just say we’re very, very good at “keeping our cool” up here in God’s country.

Things to Do

With January being one of the colder Winter months, the Northeast Kingdom is usually blessed (or some might say cursed) with sub-zero temperatures. This is great for ice fishing, snowshoeing, skating on Lake Memphremagog and other area activities.

If the snow gods cooperate, and bring us a lot of fluffy white snow, you will find some of the very best snowmobiling on the VAST trails in every corner of the region.

Skiing and snowboarding are also essential for keeping mind and body fit during the long winter months and you’ll find a number of ski areas within just minutes from either the Newport City Inn & Suites or the Derby Four Seasons Inn & Suites.

Perhaps the best way to enjoy the new year is with a celebration and there are several venues offering New Year’s Eve festivities around the greater Newport area. You’ll find more information in the Events Calendar below.
