With the leaves changing color and the nights getting shorter, apples are growing delightfully sweeter by the day. Though there really aren’t many apple orchards in the Northeast Kingdom, there are a few.
Northeast Kingdom Apple Orchards
The closest orchard to the Newport area, is across the border in Quebec. It’s called Verger Heath Orchard, and is on Route 143 out of Stanstead.
Burtt’s Apple Orchard is located in Cabot, VT.
Visit the small, family-run Burtts’ Apple Orchard in Cabot, started after Greg Burtt, now 30, wrote an orchard business plan in high school. Throughout the fall, they fry up fresh cider donuts, press sweet cider and offer pick-your-own varieties including many prized heirlooms like St. Edmund’s Russet and Cox’s Orange Pippin.
